Information for newcomers to jumpstart familiarity with local resources

Earth, air, fire, water—these are basic elements of life and sources of philosophical debate. In 2018, the current debate rests more with environmental responsibility than with Empedocles’s cosmogenic elements. Pollutants are no longer only large objects that volunteers fish out of the river at community clean-up days.

Where do you buy your food—from a CSA farm or a local farmers market—and what’s the difference? Is there one? Both offer many of the same things—a variety of fresh and local foods, community interaction, and exposure to new ideas and ways of preparing food. They also offer organic foods and lesser known varieties, and many CSA farms sell their products at their own farm stores as well as at local farmers markets. So, do they differ?

School is out and summer is here.  Yay!  Are your kids bored yet?  No?  Yay, again.  But, when that time comes, why not take them to the park?  Northfield's parks are a great place to unwind, rewind, play, and enjoy the outdoors.  There are playgrounds, soccer fields, walking trails, picnic tables, lots of green and open spaces.  And, on certain Wednesdays from 1:00pm to 4:00 pm throughout the summer, there will be Arts in the Park brought to you by the friendly and creative folks at Northfield's United Methodist Church. 

Northfield is indeed home to "Cows, Colleges, and Contentment" but what about preschools? Your little sweetie may be brilliant but may not yet meet all the entrance requirements of Northfield's local colleges. So, what educational opportunities does it have to offer the leaders of tomorrow? And when you find them, what should you look for in their preschool program?

Northfield Curbside Composting - coming to a curb near you. If you garden or subscribe to a local CSA then composting may be old news. But for everyone else, what to do with all that garbage you generate may be a daily chore.
