Festivals & Holidays

Visit Farmington for tree lighting, carriage rides and more. Traditionally held around the first week of December.

A community event to support the local school, September 27, 2014. Look for this to become an annual event!

One of my favorite events during Defeat of Jesse James Days in Northfield is the Vintage Baseball game, held on Saturday at 1pm during the festival.

If you like tractors, old engines, flea markets, and good times, you'll want to check out this local festival held around Labor Day and Memorial Day each year.

"The Great Minnesota Get Together"

Every year, the 12 day fair draws hundreds of thousands of people not only to taste all kinds of food, often fried and on a stick, but also to witness such events as butter-block sculpting, wild carnival rides, grandstand music performances, livestock and animal husbandry exhibitions and more.

Local festivals give a town character (and show off its characters!) and make for great day-trip destinations. South East Minnesota and the Minneapolis & St Paul metro area feature many opportunities to enjoy local cuisines, culture and heritage, with a hefty dose of hometown pride. Getting out and about really adds to your appreciation of the area while edifying personal cultural knowledge.

The Defeat of Jesse James Days celebration is here again! Every year the week after Labor Day the town is transformed into all things festive. Carnival games and rides, a rodeo, antique car show, reenactments, special theater productions and old time baseball, it's all here!

Every 3 years musicians from around the country gather in Northfield for 4 days of musical mayhem in various venues around town. It's not just any concert series though, because, you see, all the instruments are super old. Vintage, even. The music is old too, harkening back to bygone days, times of yore, and such. It is actually a very fun thing to attend.
