Aging in place or finding a place to age?
Traditionalists and Baby Boomers with healthy retirement accounts may “age in place” wherever they choose. Others may need to be more discerning. According to the Twincities.com article “As Minnesota ages, more services aim to keep seniors at home”, 80 percent of aging homeowners plan to age in their homes. In Northfield and surrounding communities, aging seniors may build a home to their specifications or buy or rent, however, as with others within the state, their options will be limited. For those retired and looking for community living, there are apartments and retirement and nursing care communities. Northfield is also considering allowing temporary ‘Granny Pod’ housing.
