True Story: Smoked Fish

True Story: Smoked Fish

Back in the day, I had several listings of vacant land down by the river. How I obtained all those listings is a story in and of itself, which I'll get to another time. Everyone was curious about the riverfront property listings and I got A LOT of calls because the price was so cheap. The only problem was that the land was in a flood plain and actually flooded every year which translated to the reality that you could do nothing with the land except maybe have a picnic when the river was low.

One call was from a buyer who toyed with the idea of buying one of the lots but ultimately decided the land wasn't for him and wanted me to show him some affordable homes instead. I drove him around a few times on home tours and we got to talking. He was... an interesting dude. Occasionally he would just burst out in song and I remember he would sing something about "Down by the river of Babylon" while we drove around. I figured it had something to do with the riverfront listings he had called me about, but the river wasn't called Babylon, so I don't really know what that was all about.

Anyway, one day, out of nowhere, he offered to sell me some smoked fish, about which I thought, um, yeah, I really want that. But I went anyway to his house and he sold me some smoked fish out of the trunk of his car in his garage for $20. It wasn't bad, but I can say without a doubt there was something fishy about the whole experience. And no, he never did buy a house with me.
